Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a disturbing turn of events, a mob targeted the hideout of Shahjahan Sheikh's brother, who had been on the run, in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, on Thursday. Alleging that Shahjahan Sheikh's brother, Shirajuddin, had unlawfully acquired land from tribals under his brother's influence, villagers set fire to a hut in the Rampur area, escalating tensions in the politically charged region. Sandeshkhali, situated in the Basirhat subdivision of North 24 Parganas district, has been engulfed in political turmoil for the past month, with serious accusations leveled against Shahjahan Sheikh, a prominent TMC leader, who has a history of alleged involvement in rioting incidents.
The situation in Sandeshkhali remains volatile, with the ED's recent attempt to raid Shahjahan Sheikh's hideout met with resistance from a hostile mob, further exacerbating tensions. Director General of Police, Rajiv Kumar, who spent Wednesday night in the area to assess the situation, reiterated the police's commitment to addressing grievances and ensuring justice for all. Kumar emphasized strict action against those found guilty of committing atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali, amidst growing concerns over lawlessness and violence in the region.
